Rules and Restrictions of Volleyball
- Played on a 30' x 60' court with a net dividing the court in half
- Players may not step beyond the center line, where the net is located, while the ball is in play
- The volleyball must pass through two antennas located on either side of the net
- There are six players on each team, three closest to the net and three in the back row
- Back row players must be beyond the 10 foot line (located 10 feet from the net) before ball is in play (when ball is in play, they may move wherever)
- The player in the far right position in the back row (position one) serves the ball
- Each team has no more than three touches to return the ball to the other side
- The ball must not touch the ground and no one person can touch it twice in a row
- A team continues to serve until the their team makes an error, commits a foul, or completes the game
- When service changes, the team serving rotates once clockwise so that there is a new person in the serving position
- A team can score a point no matter which team is serving, by the other team making an error, hitting it out of bounds, making a foul, failing to return the ball, touching it more than three times, etc.
- A game is usually played either out of 5 sets, where a team must win three to win the game, or out of 3 sets, where a team must win two to win the game
- One point is scored at a time, the first team to reach 25 points and is ahead by at least 2 points wins, except in the 5th set when the team only needs to score 15 points and be ahead of the other team by at least 2 points
